Lyons Companies, a number one insurance dealer in Delaware, suffered a data breach episode compromising customers’ sensitive data.
The investigation showed that unauthorized third parties gained access to two Lyons employee e-mail accounts. One email account was obtained between February 4 and March 12, 2019, and the second account was accessed for a couple of hours on March 12, 2019.
The imperiled email accounts contained clients’ data such as names, birth dates, contact information, driver’s license information, and financial information.
The accessed records further contain medical or scientific info reminiscent of medical document numbers, affected person identification numbers, analysis and therapy data, Medicare or Medicaid identification quantity, and preventive health insurance and claims information.
A small portion of people also had their Social Security numbers stolen.
Lyons became aware of the breach on March 12, 2019. Following this, it hired third-party forensic specialists and started an investigation into the event.
In response to this episode, Lyons has strengthened the security of its techniques to stop such incidents from occurring in the future.
The insurance dealer is offering the impacted individuals with “Privacy Safeguards” tips that may be used to better personal shield data.
“Lyons Companies takes the security and privacy of all data that it holds very seriously. While there’s at present no proof that there was any actual or attempted misuse of records compromised, Lyons is offering notice after an inquiry into a data breach episode,” stated the company in its security notice.
